A downloadable tool for Windows

ScreenFrame is a simple tool to assist when screen recording or sharing a portion of your screen.

The main use-case I had in mind when I made this tool was using a software like OBS to record a portion of the screen while having a visual indicator to show me what would actually be in frame. I often record for a vertical aspect ratio and as far as I could find, this utility was lacking inside OBS itself.

(If this is already built-in somewhere and I'm an idiot that's ok I made this in an afternoon ðŸ˜…)

Features

  • Multiple frames at once
  • Settings save to disk
  • Set size, position, color, and border width
  • Frames are always on top

Known Limitations

  • Works on one monitor at a time. You can launch the app multiple times but this may have unintended effects with the saving/loading of frames
  • Only built for windows at the moment, if there's interest on other platforms I may look into it
  • On higher resolutions you may have to fiddle with the frame scale setting to make sure the pixel dimensions are accurate. For example on my 4k monitor I have 1.5x UI scaling set in the Windows 11 Display settings. The app calculates the "size" of the screen after taking into account that 1.5x ui scaling so a 4k 16:9 frame will appear too large until you adjust the frame scale.

Support & Updates

  • Can't promise anything about future support, I made this mostly for me to use it but if enough people find it useful maybe I'll update it in the future
